For the last few years, I’ve been using a hard drive in an external enclosure. It was a 120GB hard drive and lately has just kept backups. I’ve never trusted the drive 100% and have had many problems with it, especially in the last 6 months. Finally, however, it failed -- or at least broke. So, I was left with no backup drive and went searching for a new one (online of course).
After weeks of looking around tech websites, reading reviews, I chose the Western Digital My Book Essential 1TB External Hard Drive. It was one of the cheapest I could find and looked like a decent hard drive -- it came with a 2 year warranty too. It’s black and stands up (like a book, hence the name). This is a great space saving feature.
The drive is louder than I hoped but once I took it off my desk and put it on a shelf underneath, the sound became quieter and was not too bad. It can be a bit noisy when it’s getting written to and read from but what can you expect? It’s a hard drive!
