You may remember, on the 26th of May, I made a blog post explaining that I would be uploading a new design for my website. Nearly a month later, nothing has changed. This is because I have been creating my own WordPress theme.

WordPress (http://wordpress.org) is a blogging platform that you install on your web server. The advantage of doing this, over using a blogging service like blogger (the blogging service from Google that I am currently using), is you have full control over every file in your blog. You must not, however, get wordpress.org confused with wordpress.com. the ‘.org’ version is the one I will be using, and requires a web host supporting PHP and a user who knows what they’re doing when creating databases. The ‘.com’ version is a service like blogger which lets anyone create a blog for free and does not require any installation.

I have installed WordPress locally (on my computer) using xampp which allows your computer to run PHP. Being so impressed by WordPress, I have decided to build my whole website on it. This blog will be imported into the new one and you will automatically be directed to the right place when you attempt to come here. I will also be changing the RSS feed URLs but I will give more information on that later.

Writing my theme will take a while, so don’t expect to see any changes to my website any time soon. Also, I would love your thoughts and suggestions on what the new design could contain. For example, if you would like to see certain types of videos or blog posts, or if there is something you want on the website, like a forum, then just let me know.
