What is Twitter?

Twitter is one of them things that is difficult to explain. The only way you can truly experience the power of Twitter is to actually use it.

Twitter is a bit like a social network, but it isn’t. It’s similar to an Instant messaging client, but it isn’t one. Actually, it’s a lot like a blog, but only shorter.

Basically, you tell the world what your doing, and, you do it in 140 characters, or 140 letters, or less.

When you post something to Twitter, everyone who is following you will instantly see the message, unless they only use Twitter through their web browser, in which case they would receive your ‘Tweet’ the next time they visit Twitter.com

A follower on Twitter, is just a person who is subscribed to your messages, or your ‘Tweets’ (everything you post on Twitter). Obviously, you too can follow other people and you will receive updates through which ever Twitter client you use. This may just be the web.

Not only can you use Twitter through the web interface, you can use it through desktop applications, like Twirl for example. You can even ‘Tweet’ through certain IM Clients, which can be useful if you do not want to install anything or navigate to the website, every time you do something different and feel the world should know about it.

Although Twitter sounds quite boring and useless, it’s actually an amazing website and like I said before, you need to sign up and use it before you’ll realize how good it is. So what are you waiting for, sign up, it’s free!

You can find me on Twitter. My username is Jaketvee. You can also find me, and everyone else who reads this blog, in the chat, which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Even if I’m not there, there is usually someone there chatting about something. We generally talk about tech but not always. You can find us at live.jak-e.com.
